All Hands on Math

Audience: Grades 3-5

Program Length: 60 minute workshop

Curriculum Objectives: Number Patterns, Square Numbers, Triangular Numbers, Problem Solving

Sport Stacking is cool! Like juggling it is an ambidextrous activity that engages both sides of the brain. It has been shown to improve math and reading scores. For more information on Sport Stacking or to order cups and other equipment, go to the Speed Stacks website:

In "All Hands On Math" we use Speed Stacks to explore number patterns and other math concepts. First we talk about ambidexterity and mime activities that use both hands.

Students then work in groups of three to find a number that is both square and triangular. We work on problem solving skills and show how there can be many ways to get to one answer.
